BIRD Internet Routing Daemon is a software for Linux and BSD that provides dynamic routing and related tasks. It supports routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, RIP, and Babel, as well as auxiliary protocols like BFD, BMP, MRT, and RTR.
BIRD is primarily used by Internet routing nodes (IXPs – Internet Exchange Points) and data centers, including CDNs (Content Delivery Networks), where it ensures efficient traffic routing. However, it is also used by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and hardware manufacturers.
BIRD stands out for its performance and low memory consumption. Users also appreciate its powerful and efficient internal filtering language, which allows BIRD to operate in deployments where other implementations have long failed.
